| Special Education Teacher - Elementary | | Title: Special Education Classroom Teacher Pay scale: As per the NBTA Contract Start date: August 25, 2026 Description: The North Bellmore UFSD is seeking a compassionate and skilled Special Education Teacher to support students with diverse learning needs in our elementary school district. The ideal candidate will work across multiple settings including resource rooms, inclusion classrooms, and specialized learning environments. The Special Education Classroom Teacher is responsible for developing and implementing lesson plans to provide instruction specifically designed for students. The Special Education Teacher reports directly to the building Principal and Director of Special Education and Student Support Services. Expectations: - Foster a safe and supportive classroom environment that encourages student growth and independence
- Plan and implement daily lessons and activities, including individual, small group, and whole class instruction, in accordance with student IEPs
- Adapt and differentiate assignments to align with students' Individualized Education Plans (IEPs)
- Develop, write, and implement individualized education plans (IEPs)
- Provide specialized instruction tailored to students' unique learning needs by implementing evidence-based instructional strategies
- Use evidence-based practices to address academic, social, emotional, and behavioral goals
- Conduct ongoing student assessments and progress monitoring and maintain data portfolios and comprehensive student records
- Demonstrates patience, understanding, and compassion for students with diverse needs
- Utilize Positive Behavior Classroom Management techniques based on developmental needs of students
- Work collaboratively with school psychologists, social workers, counselors, assistive technology teachers, and behavior specialists to effectively address students' needs
- Implement management plans, Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs), and crisis intervention plans (CIPs) as required, ensuring a cohesive and comprehensive approach to supporting each student’s academic, social-emotional, and behavioral growth
- Work cooperatively with classroom, shared and 1:1 paraprofessionals
- Administer formal assessments for initial evaluations, annual reviews, and triennial re-evaluations.
- Analyze results of testing identify students’ strengths and needs, and prepare detailed, data-driven reports to effectively communicate findings to parents and the school team
- Communicate progress of students to the Building Principal, Early Intervention Steam, Support Staff and Director of Special Education and Student Support Services, as needed
- Collaborate with general education teachers, administrators, and support staff
- Comply with and execute all safety and security protocols/procedures for the building and district
- Communicate effectively with families to keep them informed about student progress and strategies for success
- Administer Special Education Testing for referrals, annuals, and triennials
- Other duties, as assigned
Requirements: - Valid New York State Teacher Certification in Special Education or Students with Disabilities, All Grades, K-12, or B-2 AND 1-6, required
- Knowledge of Wilson, preferred but not required
- Knowledge of Touch Math, preferred but not required
- Knowledge of DIAL, WIAT, WJ and other testing protocols
- Excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to communicate effectively with colleagues, parents, community members, and staff members
