Leave Replacement Teacher - Grade 5

Title: Grade 5 Leave Replacement Teacher

Start Date: January 2026

End Date: May 2026 (with opportunities to substitute teach daily through June)

Pay Scale: As per the NBTA Contract 

Description: North Bellmore is seeking a Grade 5 leave replacement classroom teacher. The candidate is expected to speak, act and instruct students in a manner that is consistent with the District’s Core Values, Mission and Curricula areas.  The successful candidate will be responsible for educating and nurturing young children in a classroom setting. You will be expected to create implement lesson plans, differentiate instruction, maintain a positive classroom management system, assess student performance, communicate with parents, and collaborate with colleagues to ensure a positive and effective learning environment.  

Expectations: 

  • Implement curricula and activities to meet our high academic standards 

  • Analyze assessments that measure progress towards the standards and use this assessment data to inform and differentiate instructional practices 

  • Ability to focus student learning, thinking critically and strategically to respond to student learning needs 

  • Ability to plan for the varying needs of learners using whole group, small group and 1:1 instruction 

  • Strong background in balanced literacy 

  • Knowledge of math tools/manipulatives and incorporating them into instruction 

  • Use assessment data to modify unit plans, inform groupings, and support student referrals 

  • Strong understanding of best practices with respect to RtI/MTSS 

  • Understand and implement interventions for Multi-language and English-language learners   

  • Create a positive, structured learning environment to ensure that students observe the school’s core values, high expectations, and code of conduct 

  • Create and maintain an engaging and organized physical classroom environment, making learning accessible to all students  

  • Establish and maintain positive relationships and constructive interactions with students, families, colleagues and administration  

  • Uphold all school policies within the classroom  

  • Maintain organized records of anecdotal notes and assessments  

  • Administer formal and informal assessments throughout the school year 

  • Communicate effectively with students, families, and colleagues 

  • Comply with and execute all safety and security protocols/procedures for the building and district   

  • Commit to continual professional growth  

  •   Attend all required meetings and Professional Development 

  • Actively engage with the North Bellmore community in fulfilling its mission  

Employment Term: This is a temporary leave replacement position.

Leave Replacement Technology Teacher - Computer Science, Coding and Robotics

General Position Description:

The Technology Teacher provides coding and robotics instruction as a special area class and supports the integration of iPads, Chromebooks, and classroom tools into daily instruction for grades K–6.  The Technology Teacher helps classroom teachers to incorporate the use of technology hardware and software into their lesson plans and partners with building principals to facilitate the management, use and dissemination of instructional data to classroom teachers. Technology teachers provide leadership in the school by working with students and teachers to effectively integrate the use of technology into instruction that meets local, state and national standards for educational technology.

Specific Job Duties:

  • Instruct special area Computer Science class for grades 4-6 daily. Instruction incorporates various coding platforms and/or robotics tools including Ozobots, Cubelets, Lego Spikes, Spheros, and Dash and Dot robots.
  • Models for teachers, the technology skills needed to infuse technology methods into the delivery of the curriculum in all K-6 and self-contained classrooms.
  • Provides turn-key training for all staff members on all related technology implementations including, but not limited to:  SMART Notebook, iPads,  file management and storage, document cameras.
  • Participates in and carries out a technology education program involving demonstrations, trainings, discussions, and hands-on learning sessions.
  • Instructs students and teachers in the proper use, care and safe handling of equipment.
  • Provides for safe storage and proper use of materials, equipment and tools.
  • Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior for a productive learning environment during technology sessions.
  • Performs all phases of computerized assessment implementation including scheduling, creation of test sessions and proctoring.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned by the Director of Technology or other appropriate administrator.
  • Evaluates and reflects upon professional practices, emerging technologies, and current research to support student learning.
Half-time Special Education Teacher - Leave Replacement

Title: Half-Time Leave Replacement- Special Education Teacher 

Pay scale: As per the NBTA Contract 

Start date: On or around December 1, 2025; End Date: On or around February 13, 2026 (3-month Leave)

Description: The Leave Replacement Special Education Classroom Teacher is responsible for developing and implementing lesson plans to provide instruction specifically designed for students in a Special Education summer program.  Teacher reports directly to the building Principal and Executive Director of Pupil Personnel Services and Special Education. This is a half-time position in the morning.

Expectations:  

  • Plan and implement daily lessons and activities, including individual, small group, and whole-class instruction, in accordance with student IEPs 

  • Implement all aspects of the students’ IEPs 

  • Maintain communication with parents on an ongoing basis 

  • Monitor students’ progress through data collection  

  • Record and report student attendance 

  • Utilize Positive Behavior Classroom Management techniques based on developmental needs of students 

  • Work cooperatively with classroom, shared and 1:1 paraprofessional 

  • Communicate progress of students to the Building Principal, Early Intervention Steam, Support Staff and Executive Director of Pupil Personnel Services and Special Education, as needed 

  • Comply with and execute all safety and security protocols/procedures for the building and district   

  • Administer Special Education Testing for referrals, annuals, and triennials  

  • Other duties, as assigned 

Requirements: 

  • Valid New York State Teacher Certification in Special Education or Students with Disabilities, required  

  • Knowledge of Wilson, preferred but not required 

  • Knowledge of Touch Math, preferred but not required 

  • Knowledge of DIAL, WIAT, WJ and other testing protocols  

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to communicate effectively with colleagues, parents, community members, and staff members
