Special Education Teacher - Elementary

Description: The North Bellmore UFSD is seeking a compassionate and skilled Special Education Teacher to support students with diverse learning needs in our elementary school district. The ideal candidate will work across multiple settings including resource rooms, inclusion classrooms, and specialized learning environments. The Special Education Classroom Teacher is responsible for developing and implementing lesson plans to provide instruction specifically designed for students. The Special Education Teacher reports directly to the building Principal and Director of Special Education and Student Support Services.

 

Expectations:

  • Foster a safe and supportive classroom environment that encourages student growth and independence
  • Plan and implement daily lessons and activities, including individual, small group, and whole class instruction, in accordance with student IEPs
  • Adapt and differentiate assignments to align with students' Individualized Education Plans (IEPs)
  • Develop, write, and implement individualized education plans (IEPs)
  • Provide specialized instruction tailored to students' unique learning needs by implementing evidence-based instructional strategies
  • Use evidence-based practices to address academic, social, emotional, and behavioral goals
  • Conduct ongoing student assessments and progress monitoring and maintain data portfolios and comprehensive student records
  • Demonstrates patience, understanding, and compassion for students with diverse needs
  • Utilize Positive Behavior Classroom Management techniques based on developmental needs of students
  • Work collaboratively with school psychologists, social workers, counselors, assistive technology teachers, and behavior specialists to effectively address students' needs
  • Implement management plans, Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs), and crisis intervention plans (CIPs) as required, ensuring a cohesive and comprehensive approach to supporting each student’s academic, social-emotional, and behavioral growth
  • Work cooperatively with classroom, shared and 1:1 paraprofessionals
  • Administer formal assessments for initial evaluations, annual reviews, and triennial re-evaluations.
  • Analyze results of testing identify students’ strengths and needs, and prepare detailed, data-driven reports to effectively communicate findings to parents and the school team
  • Communicate progress of students to the Building Principal, Early Intervention Steam, Support Staff and Director of Special Education and Student Support Services, as needed
  • Collaborate with general education teachers, administrators, and support staff
  • Comply with and execute all safety and security protocols/procedures for the building and district 
  • Communicate effectively with families to keep them informed about student progress and strategies for success
  • Administer Special Education Testing for referrals, annuals, and triennials
  • Other duties, as assigned

 

Requirements:

  • Valid New York State Teacher Certification in Special Education or Students with Disabilities, All Grades, K-12, or B-2 AND 1-6, required
  • Knowledge of Wilson, preferred but not required
  • Knowledge of Touch Math, preferred but not required
  • Knowledge of DIAL, WIAT, WJ and other testing protocols 
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to communicate effectively with colleagues, parents, community members, and staff members

Part-time and Sub Part-time Food Service Workers

Title: Part-time Food Service Workers and Sub Part-time Food Service Workers

 

Hours: 10:45am-1:45pm, daily or as needed and when school is in session

 

PayScale: $20.79/hr if hired part-time; $17.71/hr if hired as a sub

 

Description: North Bellmore is seeking part-time and part-time substitute food service workers for the 2025-2026 school year. Food service workers report directly to the Director of Food Services and the building principal.

 

Expectations:

  • Basic knowledge of the proper method of serving food

  • Basic knowledge of the principles and practices of sanitation and personal hygiene as applied to the preparation and serving of food

  • Ability to use and care for food service equipment and appliances

  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions

  • Ability to perform physical activity of position

  • Ability to use a cash register

  • Other duties, as assigned

 

Requirements:

  • Completion of eighth grade education  

  • Fingerprint clearance from NYS

Daily Substitute Teacher
  • Follow lesson plans provided by the regular Teacher to create a cohesive and consistent learning experience for students
  • Manage the classroom effectively to encourage student participation, minimize distractions and maintain a positive learning environment
  • Adapt teaching methods to fit the needs of each individual student
  • Supervise students in and out of the classroom, including in the halls, on the playground and in the cafeteria
  • Provide in-class and at-home assignments based on the available lesson plan

Paraprofessional Part-time

 

Description: 

  • Work Monday-Friday; Shifts are assigned to the employee based on availability (8:15am-11:45am, 10:45am-2:15pm, 11:30am-3:00pm) 

  • Communicate with students and school staff in a positive and professional manner 

  • Help children to make transitions throughout the day 

  • Ensure child safety in hallways and on stairs 

  • Implement formal Behavior Intervention Plan 

  • Support children with medical, emotional and behavioral needs 

  • Assist teachers in the performance of their teaching functions by performing varied duties associated with teaching process 

  • Support the classroom teachers with the social, behavioral and emotional needs of students 

 

Requirements: 

  • Fingerprint clearance from The Department of Education (District will provide information for fingerprinting) 

  • High School Diploma

Substitute School Nurse/Daily Lunch Coverage Nurse

Description: Substitute school nurses and lunch coverage nurses are expected to perform professional nursing services at any of our North Bellmore elementary schools, during their assigned hours.  Shift durations vary from 8:15am-3:15pm, depending on need.  He/she will provide organization and coordination in the delivery of healthcare services within the district, in collaboration with school healthcare providers, administrators, teachers, parents and other staff.  He/she is required to maintain acceptable health standards and the school health records. Additionally, the emergency treatment of student and employee health problems is also a requirement. 

 

Expectations: 

  • Periodic examinations and screening procedures as required by State Law and the Board of Education 

  • Prepare and maintain health records – medical and dental not mandated by New York State 

  • Assist school personnel in maintaining universal precautions in schools 

  • Support building administrators with implementing COVID-19 protocols and completing the appropriate intake forms for students and staff 

  • Provide care of a student or staff member who has suffered an injury or emergency illness 

  • Administer first aid  

  • Observe the student population in order to identify any new health trends/needs that arise  

  • Work collaboratively with teacher aides, teachers and school personnel with  respect to 1x1 medical supervision in place for students  

  • Instruct teachers or teacher aides to administer emergency medicines according to doctor’s orders 

  • Maintain up-to-date cumulative health records on all students 

  • Advise administration on exclusion and readmission of students in connection with infectious and contagious diseases and immunizations 

  • Other related duties as assigned 

$28.98/hr
