JOB GOAL: Perform routine cleaning duties, perform unskilled maintenance tasks and other related duties as required. 

 

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES: 

 

Under direct supervision, the duties require the use of limited judgment in performing unskilled work cleaning and caring for public buildings; employees in this class are responsible for the cleanliness of a section of a school building assigned to them, performing unskilled maintenance duties, and other laboring tasks. 

 

TYPICAL DUTIES: 

 

  • Sweeps, mops, washes walls, dusts, empties waste baskets and disposes of rubbish, handles towels and other cleaning supplies, waxes floors, washes windows and blackboard, and assists in cartage of supplies and equipment 

  • Sets up and removes furniture for special affairs 

  • Secures windows and doors after cleaning assigned areas 

  • Removes snow or rakes leaves in immediate vicinity of buildings 

  • Paints areas not requiring specific painting skills and/or knowledge 

  • Other duties as assigned 

 

REQUIREMENTS:

  • HS Diploma or Equivalent

Part-time Bus Matron

Title: In Anticipation of: Substitute/Part-time Bus Matron

Hours: 7:00am – 9:00am AND 2:00pm-4:00pm

Pay Scale: $17.96/Hour

Description: North Bellmore is seeking a substitute/part-time Bus Matron for the remainder of 22-23 school year. Bus matrons ride on a school bus for the purpose of maintaining order, and for supervising the loading and unloading of buses at the various stopping points. This is routine work which includes responsibility for the safety of school children on regularly scheduled bus trips to and from school.

Expectations: • Maintains order on bus and makes certain that children are seated while bus is in motion • Supervises loading and unloading of bus • Assists pupils and driver as needed • Familiarity with the bus routes in the district • Communicates with parents/guardians as needed • Ability to understand and follow simple oral and written directions • Ability to get along with children and to maintain discipline • Comply with and execute all safety and security protocols/procedures for the building and district • Other duties, as assigned

 

Requirements: • Fingerprints from Nassau Police department (to obtain a school bus aide id card) • Fingerprints from NYSED • 3-hour bus safety course • Physical performance test • Must attend a 2-hour refresher course twice a year • Candidates must satisfy the physical and mental requirements for school bus monitor set forth in the Rules and Regulations of the New York State commissioner of Education

Part-time and Sub Part-time Food Service Workers

Title: Part-time Food Service Workers and Sub Part-time Food Service Workers

 

Hours: 10:45am-1:45pm, daily or as needed and when school is in session

 

PayScale: $18.54/hr if hired part-time; $15.46/hr if hired as a sub

 

Description: North Bellmore is seeking part-time and part-time substitute food service workers for the 22-23 school year. Food service workers report directly to the Director of Food Services and the building principal.

 

Expectations:

  • Basic knowledge of the proper method of serving food

  • Basic knowledge of the principles and practices of sanitation and personal hygiene as applied to the preparation and serving of food

  • Ability to use and care for food service equipment and appliances

  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions

  • Ability to perform physical activity of position

  • Ability to use a cash register

  • Other duties, as assigned

 

Requirements:

  • Completion of eighth grade education  

  • Fingerprint clearance from NYS

Substitute School Nurse/Daily Lunch Coverage Nurse

Description: Substitute school nurses and lunch coverage nurses are expected to perform professional nursing services at any of our North Bellmore elementary schools, during their assigned hours.  Shift durations vary from 8:15am-3:15pm, depending on need.  He/she will provide organization and coordination in the delivery of healthcare services within the district, in collaboration with school healthcare providers, administrators, teachers, parents and other staff.  He/she is required to maintain acceptable health standards and the school health records. Additionally, the emergency treatment of student and employee health problems is also a requirement. 

 

Expectations: 

  • Periodic examinations and screening procedures as required by State Law and the Board of Education 

  • Prepare and maintain health records – medical and dental not mandated by New York State 

  • Assist school personnel in maintaining universal precautions in schools 

  • Support building administrators with implementing COVID-19 protocols and completing the appropriate intake forms for students and staff 

  • Provide care of a student or staff member who has suffered an injury or emergency illness 

  • Administer first aid  

  • Observe the student population in order to identify any new health trends/needs that arise  

  • Work collaboratively with teacher aides, teachers and school personnel with  respect to 1x1 medical supervision in place for students  

  • Instruct teachers or teacher aides to administer emergency medicines according to doctor’s orders 

  • Maintain up-to-date cumulative health records on all students 

  • Advise administration on exclusion and readmission of students in connection with infectious and contagious diseases and immunizations 

  • Other related duties as assigned

Daily Substitute Teacher
  • Follow lesson plans provided by the regular Teacher to create a cohesive and consistent learning experience for students
  • Manage the classroom effectively to encourage student participation, minimize distractions and maintain a positive learning environment
  • Adapt teaching methods to fit the needs of each individual student
  • Supervise students in and out of the classroom, including in the halls, on the playground and in the cafeteria
  • Provide in-class and at-home assignments based on the available lesson plan

Paraprofessional Part-time

 

Description: 

  • Work Monday-Friday; Shifts are assigned to the employee based on availability (8:15am-11:45am, 10:45am-2:15pm, 11:30am-3:00pm) 

  • Communicate with students and school staff in a positive and professional manner 

  • Help children to make transitions throughout the day 

  • Ensure child safety in hallways and on stairs 

  • Implement formal Behavior Intervention Plan 

  • Support children with medical, emotional and behavioral needs 

  • Assist teachers in the performance of their teaching functions by performing varied duties associated with teaching process 

  • Support the classroom teachers with the social, behavioral and emotional needs of students 

 

Requirements: 

  • Fingerprint clearance from The Department of Education (District will provide information for fingerprinting) 

  • High School Diploma
